Concept Paper

Vision: The Brook Byers Institute for Sustainable Systems embodies Georgia Tech's commitment to a sustainable and prosperous future through a comprehensive and innovative systems-based approach to creating technological, management and policy solutions to challenges facing society in the 21st century.

Mission: To provide the State of Georgia and Georgia Tech's global partners with the scientific and technological knowledge base, workforce and innovation to address the complex and integrated challenges that are associated with global climate change, resource consumption, and economic development and to respond to emerging opportunities in meeting the challenges of sustainability.

Summary: Georgia Tech's Institute for Sustainable Systems is a global and comprehensive sustainability program that addresses both the challenges and opportunities associated with sustainability in the 21st century. Georgia Tech's tradition in sustainability is an interdisciplinary systems approach that addresses a hierarchy of integrated technological, scientific, and management systems that interact in complex ways. The Institute for Sustainable Systems is organized around the following intersecting programs: Sustainable Energy Systems (Appendix A), Climate and Environmental Stewardship (Appendix B), Sustainable Enterprise (Appendix 3) and Sustainable Urban Systems (Appendix D).
