The Georgia Institute of Technology seeks an innovative, dynamic, and experienced scholar and leader for the newly formed Brook Byers Institute for Sustainable Systems (ISS). The Director will hold the position of Hightower Chair for Environmental Technologies and Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar. The goal for the newly formed Institute for Sustainable Systems is to grow into a global and comprehensive sustainability program that addresses both the challenges and opportunities associated with sustainability in the 21st Century through research, education, and outreach. Through the Institute for Sustainable Systems, interdisciplinary systems approaches to address issues of sustainability can be addressed through interactions of technological, scientific, and management systems as they relate to the environment. Focus areas include sustainable energy systems, climate and environmental stewardship, sustainable enterprise, and sustainable urban systems. Georgia Tech is seeking a Director of the Institute for Sustainable Systems to lead the development and growth of the Institute in interdisciplinary systems-based research, interdisciplinary education, innovation, and outreach programs. The University seeks an exceptional scholar with a distinguished record of teaching and research accomplishments in any relevant field encompassed by the Colleges at Georgia Tech: Engineering, Science, Computing, Architecture, Management, and Ivan Allen (social sciences and humanities). Most importantly, we seek a strong leader who has the ability to:

  • provide intellectual and innovative leadership for the Institute;
  • catalyze sustainability activities across campus, including research centers and institutes, education programs, innovation initiatives, and green campus initiatives;
  • work with development and communications staff in marketing the Institute;
  • increase the impact of the Institute in the broader community.
